Image Dust Off is used to reduce theeffects of dust in NEF (RAW) photographs. For more information,see the documentation provided with Capture NX.Acquiring Image Dust Off Reference Data1 Highlight Start or Clean sensor, then start and pressQ.When acquiring image dust off reference data after photographshave been taken, select Start. The message shown at right will bedisplayed.When taking photographs after acquiring image dust off referencedata, select Clean sensor, then start. The message shown at rightwill be displayed after the image sensor is cleaned (A 160).“ref” will appear in the viewfinder.Press O to exit without acquiring image dust off reference data.2 With the lens ten centimeters (four inches) from a well-lit, featureless white object, frame the object so that itfills the viewfinder and then press the shutter-releasebutton halfway.In autofocus mode, focus will automatically be set to infinity; inmanual focus mode, set focus to infinity manually.3 Press the shutter-release button the rest of the waydown to acquire image dust off reference data.The monitor turns off when the shutter-release button is pressed.If the reference object is too bright or too dark, the camera may beunable to acquire image dust off reference data and the messageshown at right will be displayed. Choose another reference object andrepeat the process from step 1.B Notes on Image Sensor CleaningIf photographs that will be processed with Image Dust Off have already been recorded, DO NOTclean the image sensor before acquiring image dust off reference data. If the image sensor iscleaned after photographs are taken, but before image dust reference data are acquired, Image DustOff will be unable to locate dust and remove its effects. This camera automatically cleans the imagesensor when the camera is turned on and off (default setting).
