34BASIC OPERATION continuedFOCUSINGThe FA-comes equipped with Type K2 focusing screen suitablefor all-purpose photography. While looking through theviewfinder compose your photo and turn the focusing ringof the lens until the subject looks clear. For precise pinpointfocusing on subjects with distant contours, use the central split-image rangefinder; turn the focusing ring until the split imagebecomes whole (A). For rapid focusing and for subjects withindistinct outlines, use the microprism collar; turn the focusingring until the shimmering image becomes sharp (B) In close up45or microphotography, or when using telephoto lenses with max-imum apertures of approx f/4.5 or smaller, the split-image spotand microprism collar are likely to darken. Therefore, use thematte portion of the screen; turn the focusing ring until theimage looks sharp (C).•Finder coverage of the FA is approx 93%; therefore the actualimage size will be slightly larger than the image seen in theviewfinder.1.
