Accessories and detergents, when correctly chosen, can increase the efficiency of your pressure washer. Here is somebasic information about cleaning.5.1.1 Soaking Encrusted or thick layers of dirt can be loosened or softened by aperiod of soaking. An ideal method within agriculture – for example, within pig sties. The soaking method can be achieved by use of foamor simple alkaline detergent. Let the product lie on the dirty surfacesfor around 15 minutes before pressure washing. The result will be amuch quicker high pressure cleaning process.Foam or detergent should be applied onto dry surfaces (not in directsun light) so that the chemical product is in direct contact with thedirt. Detergents are applied from bottom to top, for example on a carbodywork, in order to avoid “super clean” areas, where the detergentcollects in higher concentration and streams downwards. Let thedetergent work for several minutes before rinsing but never let it dryon the surface being cleaned.5.1.2 Detergent and Foam5.1.3 Temperature Detergents are more effective at higher temperatures. Greases, oilsand fats can be broken down more easily at higher temperaturesalso. Proteins can be cleaned at temperatures of around 60°C. Oils, traffic film around 70°C, and grease can be cleaned at 80°C - 90° C.5.1.4 Mechanical Effect In order to break down tough layers of dirt, additional mechanicaleffect may be required. Special lances and rotary or wash brushesoffer this supplementary effect that cuts through dirt.5.1.5 High Water Flow orHigh PressureHigh pressure is not always the best solution and high pressure maydamage surfaces. The cleaning effect also depends upon waterflow. Pressure levels of around 100 bar may be sufficient for vehiclecleaning (in association with hot water). Higher flow levels give thepossibility to rinse and flush away large amounts of dirt easily.5.2 Some typical cleaningtasks5.2.1 AgricultureTask Accessories MethodStablesPig Pens, StiesCleaning of walls, floors and equip-mentDisinfectantChemical Foam Injec-torsFoam lancePowerspeed lanceFloor CleanerDetergentsUniversalAlkafoamDisinfectantDES 30001.
