23Before useBefore starting up your machine, please checkit carefully for any defects. If you find any, donot start up your machine and contact yourNilfisk distributor.Especially check: The insulation of the electric cable shouldbe faultless and without any cracks. If theelectric cable is damaged, an authorizedNilfisk distributor should replace it.Water connectionThe machine not suitable for con-nection to the potable water mains. This high pressure washer is onlyallowed to be connected with the potablewater mains, when an appropriate backflowpreventer has been installed, Type BA ac-cording to EN 1717. The backflow preventermust comply with IEC 60335-2-79 annex AA.The backflow preventer can be ordered undernumber 106411177. The length of the hosebetween the backflow preventer and the highpressure washer must be at least 10 metres(max. 25 m) to absorb possible pressurepeaks (min diameter ½ inch). Make sure thatthe hose is faultless and does not leak.Operation by suction (for example from arainwater vessel) is carried out without back-flow preventer. Recommended suction set:126411387.As soon as water has flown through the backflow preventer, this water is not considered tobe drinking water any more.IMPORTANT! Only use water without anyimpurities. If there is a risk of running sandsin the inlet water (i.e. from your own well), anadditional filter should be mounted.Inlet water - max. pressure: 10 bar, max.temperature: 40°C.Note: The inlet filter must alwaysbe fitted in the water inlet pipeto filter out sand, limestone andother impurities as these will damagethe pump valves. Failure to fit the filter willinvalidate the guarantee.Mains power connectionThe following should be observed whenconnecting the high pressure washer to theelectric installation: Only connect the machine to an installationwith earth connection (applies to C120.5) The electric supply connection shall bemade by a qualified electrician and complywith IEC 60364-1. It is recommended that the electric sup-ply to this machine should include either aresidual current device that will interrupt thesupply if the leakage current to earth ex-ceeds 30 mA for 30 ms or a device that willprove the earth circuit. If the supply cord is damaged, it must bereplaced by the manufacturer, its serviceagent or similarly qualified persons in orderto avoid a hazard.Extension cablesInadequate extension cables can be dan-gerous. Cables on drums should always becompletely unwinded to prevent the cable fromoverheating.Extension cables should be of a watertightconstruction and comply with the below-mentioned requirements for length and cabledimensions.1.0 mm² max. 12.5 m1.5 mm² max. 20 m2.5 mm² max. 30 m Cable connections should be kept dry andoff the ground.During operationWARNING ! High pressure jets can be dan-gerous if subject to misuse. Neverdirect the water jet at persons, pets, live electrical equipment or themachine itself. Do not direct the jet against yourselfor others in order to clean clothes or foot-wear. Hold the spray lance firmly with bothhands. The spray lance is affectedby a thrust of up to 16.4 N duringoperation. The operator and anyone in the immediatevicinity of the site of cleaning should takeaction to protect themselves from beingstruck by debris dislodged during operation.Wear goggles during operation. Do not cover the machine during operation. If the machine is left or not used for 5 min.,it must be switched off on the start/stopswitch. Never use the machine in an environment
