Using Wii Remote ControllersUsing Wii Remote Controllers26 27Sensor Bar Placement GuidelinesCenter the sensor barwith the TV screen, facingstraight ahead.• Do not place the sensor bar overair vents on the TV.Place the sensor bar toslightly overhang the frontsurface of the TV screen.Place the sensor bar on thesame surface as the TV.Recommended Play EnvironmentFor the best results when using the Wii Remote controller:• The front of the sensor bar should be directly in front ofyou and clearly visible.• Avoid blocking the signal between the remote and theconsole or sensor bar.• Sit (or stand) directly in front of the TV, between 3 and10 feet (1-3m) away.• Avoid bright light sources behind or near the TV.If the Wii Remote is not operating properly, see WiiRemote and Sensor Bar in System Settings on the Wii UMenu to make adjustments, or review “Wii Remotecontrollers” in Troubleshooting (p. 59).Using Wii Remote ControllersIMPORTANT: Before using Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus controllers, be sure to reviewHealth and Safety Information on the Wii U Menu.To use software that is compatible with Wii Remote controllers, you must first install theincluded sensor bar as described below. (Some software titles do not require a sensor bar.)Installing the Sensor BarConnect the sensor bar to the Wii Uconsole.• Make sure the sensor bar plug is inserted completelyinto the connector.• If you already have a sensor bar installed for a Wiiconsole, you can switch it to the Wii U console, ratherthan installing an additional one.Remove the protective film from thefoam pads on the bottom of thesensor bar.Place the sensor bar above or below the TV screen.See sensor bar Placement Guidelines on the next page for reference.If you place your sensor bar under the TV screen:On the Wii U Menu in SystemSettings, select Wii Remote andSensor Bar, Set Sensor BarPosition, and set the position ofthe sensor bar to Below the TV.(This is necessary for properoperation of the Wii Remote controllers.)
