B a t t e r y i n f o r m a t i o n8216. Battery information■ Charging anddischargingYour device is powered by arechargeable battery. The fullperformance of a new battery isachieved only after two or threecomplete charge and discharge cycles. The battery can be charged anddischarged hundreds of times, but it willeventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorterthan normal, replace the battery.Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery only withNokia approved chargers designated forthis device. If a replacement battery is being usedfor the first time or if the battery hasnot been used for a prolonged period,it may be necessary to connect thecharger then disconnect and reconnectit to begin charging the battery.Unplug the charger from the electricalplug and the device when not in use.Do not leave a fully charged batteryconnected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten itslifetime. If left unused, a fully chargedbattery will lose its charge over time.If the battery is completely discharged,it may take a few minutes before thecharging indicator appears on thedisplay or before any calls can bemade.Use the battery only for its intendedpurpose. Never use any charger orbattery that is damaged.Do not short-circuit the battery.Accidental short-circuiting can occurwhen a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes direct connection ofthe positive (+) and negative (-)terminals of the battery. (These looklike metal strips on the battery.)This might happen, for example, when you carry a spare battery in yourpocket or purse. Short-circuiting theterminals may damage the battery orthe connecting object.Leaving the battery in hot or coldplaces, such as in a closed car insummer or winter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime ofthe battery. Always try to keep thebattery between 15°C and 25°C (59°Fand 77°F). A device with a hot or coldbattery may not work temporarily, even when the battery is fully charged.Battery performance is particularlylimited in temperatures well belowfreezing.Do not dispose of batteries in a fire asthey may explode. Batteries may alsoexplode if damaged. Dispose of9251758_6275i_1_en_au_oth_v1.0.fm Page 82 Tuesday, August 22, 2006 10:24 PM
