All rights reserved.The security indicator isdisplayed during a WAPconnection, if the datatransmission between the phoneand the WAP gateway or WAPserver (identified by the IPaddress in the Edit active servicesettings) is encrypted.However, the security indicatordoes not indicate that the datatransmission between thegateway and the content server(place where the requestedresource is saved) is secure. It isup to the service provider tosecure the data transmissionbetween the gateway and thecontent server.• Authority certificatesAuthority certificates are used bysome WAP services, such asbanking services, and forchecking the validity of othercertificates. Authoritycertificates can either be saved inthe security module by theservice provider, or they can bedownloaded from a WAP site, ifthe WAP service supports the useof authority certificates. If yousave the certificate, it is added tothe certificate list in the phone.Authority certificates may also beavailable in the security module.• User certificatesUser certificates are issued tousers by a Certifying Authority.User certificates are required, forexample, to make a digitalsignature and they associate theuser with a specific private key ina security module. Usercertificates are saved in thesecurity module by the serviceprovider or you can downloadthem to your phone from a WAPsite, if supported by the securitymodule of the SIM card.Digital signatureYou can make digital signatures withyour phone. The signature can betraced back to you via the privatekey on the security module and theuser certificate that was used toperform the signature. Using thedigital signature can be the same assigning your name to a paper bill,contract or other document.To make a digital signature, select alink on a WAP page, for example, thetitle of the book you want to buy andits price. The text to sign (possiblyincluding amount, date, etc.) will beshown.Check that the header text is Readand that the digital signature iconis shown.
