2.6 NotificationsSmart IM generates user notifications to indicate important events, such asnew messages arriving (See 4.2.4) or a new contact request (See 3.5.3).Such notifications will be generated even if the application is currently runningin the background (See 2.5).Some notifications only involve the sounding of a special tone; others will popup a notification message. When Smart IM is running in the background,some notifications may pop the application back to the foreground.2.7 Stopping the ApplicationTo stop Smart IM from running, press the Options key (either in the MainScreen or the Login screen) and select Exit.Stopping the application is recommended only when you wish to log out for along time, or when you wish to free device resources (such as memory) forthe use of other applications.N O T E SStopping Smart IM while logged in will cause the application to automatically log out from the Smartserver.The Options key does not exist in the My Status tab of the Main Screen; if you are currently in thistab, start by moving the joystick to the left, to switch to one of the other tabs.Note that the Close option in the same menu only hides the application, it does not stop it fromrunning (See 2.5).2.8 Modifying Application SettingsTo modify the application settings, press the Options key (in either the MainScreen or the Login screen) and select Settings.
