4 Nokia A040Using this documentThe Wireless LAN Adapter is approved tocreate a wireless LAN network to send dataand e-mail messages, to browse on theInternet, and to establish connections withother computers.Data connections can be made from mostlocations where your Wireless LANAdapter operates. However, it isrecommended that you move the WirelessLAN Adapter to a location where thestrongest possible network signal can beobtained. When the signal is strong, datatransmission is efficient. The following factors may impair wirelessconnections:NoiseRadio interference from electronicappliances and equipment, as well as fromother wireless devices in areas wherewireless devices are prevalent.HandoverAs the Wireless LAN Adapter user movesfrom one network cell to another, thesignal strength of the channel drops andthe network may hand the user over to adifferent cell and frequency, where thesignal is stronger. A cell handover mayalso occur when the user is stationary dueto varying network traffic loads.Electrostatic dischargeA discharge of static electricity from afinger or a conductor may cause erroneousfunctions in electric devices. The dischargemay result in unstable software operation.Network connections may becomeunreliable, data may be corrupted, and thetransmission halted. In this case, end theexisting connection (if any) and restart theunit by powering off and on again.Dead spots and dropoutsDead spots are areas where radio signalscannot be received. Dropouts occur whenthe Wireless LAN Adapter user passesthrough an area where the radio signal isblocked or reduced by geographic orstructural obstructions.Signal impairmentDistance and obstacles can cause out-of-phase reflected signals that result in a lossof signal strength.Low signal strengthDue to either distance or obstacles, theradio signal strength from a network cellmay not be strong or stable enough toprovide a reliable wireless connection forcommunication. Therefore, to ensure thebest possible communication, remember toconsider the following points:• Data connection works best when theWireless LAN Adapter is in astationary position.• Do not place the Wireless LANAdapter on a metal surface.
