TravellingNeed directions? Looking for a restaurant? Your Eseriesdevice has the tools to get you where you want to be.About GPS and satellitesignalsThe Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radionavigation system that includes 24 satellites and theirground stations that monitor the operation of the satellites.Your device has an internal GPS receiver.A GPS terminal receives low-power radio signals from thesatellites and measures the travel time of the signals. Fromthe travel time, the GPS receiver can calculate its location tothe accuracy of metres. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is operated by thegovernment of the United States, which is solely responsiblefor its accuracy and maintenance. The accuracy of locationdata can be affected by adjustments to GPS satellites madeby the United States government and is subject to changewith the United States Department of Defense civil GPS policyand the Federal Radionavigation Plan. Accuracy can also beaffected by poor satellite geometry. Availability and qualityof GPS signals may be affected by your location, buildings, natural obstacles, and weather conditions. GPS signals maynot be available inside buildings or underground and may beimpaired by materials such as concrete and metal.GPS should not be used for precise location measurement, and you should never rely solely on location data from theGPS receiver and cellular radio networks for positioning ornavigation. The trip meter has limited accuracy, and rounding errors mayoccur. Accuracy can also be affected by availability and qualityof GPS signals. To enable or disable different positioning methods, such asBluetooth GPS, select Menu > Tools > Settings >General > Positioning > Positioning methods.About satellite signalsIf your device cannot find the satellite signal, consider thefollowing:• If you are indoors, go outdoors to receive a better signal.• If you are outdoors, move to a more open space.• Ensure that your hand does not cover the GPS antenna ofyour device.• If the weather conditions are bad, the signal strength maybe affected.• Establishing a GPS connection may take from a couple ofseconds to several minutes.Satellite statusTo check how many satellites your device has found, andwhether your device is receiving satellite signals, selectMenu > GPS > GPS data > Position > Options >© 2010 Nokia.
