Advanced WLAN settingsSelect Options > Advanced settings. The advanced WLANsettings are normally defined automatically, and changingthem is not recommended.To edit the settings manually, select Automaticconfiguration > Disabled, and define the following:• Long retry limit — Enter the maximum number oftransmission attempts if the device does not receive areceiving acknowledgement signal from the network.• Short retry limit — Enter the maximum number oftransmission attempts if the device does not receive aclear-to-send signal from the network.• RTS threshold — Select the data packet size at which theWLAN access point device issues a request to send beforesending the packet.• TX power level — Select the power level of your devicewhen sending data.• Radio measurements — Enable or disable the radiomeasurements.• Power saving — Select whether to use the WLAN powersaving mechanism to save the power in the device battery.Using the power saving mechanism enhances the batteryperformance but may weaken WLAN interoperability.To restore all settings to their original values, selectOptions > Restore defaults.WLAN security settingsSelect Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings and Connection >Destinations > Access point, and follow the instructionson the display.To edit a wireless LAN (WLAN) access point, open one of theaccess point groups, and select an access point marked with.To enter the settings for the selected security mode, selectWLAN security settings.WEP security settingsSelect WEP as the WLAN security mode.The wired equivalent privacy (WEP) encryption methodencrypts data before it is transmitted. Access to the networkis denied to users who do not have the required WEP keys.When the WEP security mode is in use, and your devicereceives a data packet not encrypted with the WEP keys, thedata is discarded.In an ad-hoc network, all devices must use the same WEP key.Select WLAN security settings and from the following:• WEP key in use — Select the desired WEP key.• Authentication type — Select Open or Shared.• WEP key settings — Edit the settings for the WEP key.WEP key settingsIn an ad-hoc network, all devices must use the same WEP key.© 2009 Nokia.
