1.0 SPECIAL NOTICES1.1 The following special notices highlightimportant information in the installation andmaintenance sections. Each serves a specialpurpose and is displayed in the format shown:This symbol indicates a potentially hazardoussituation, which, if not avoided, can result inpersonal injury or damage to the equipment.This symbol indicates a potentially hazardoussituation, which, if not avoided, may be ashock hazard.This symbol indicates an imminently hazardoussituation, which, if not avoided, could result indeath or serious injury.2.0 PRE-INSTALLATION2.1 Initially, inspect the heater for possibledamage due to shipping and handling. Claimsfor shipping damages shall be placed with thecarrier.2.2 Check the heater nameplate to ensure thatthe heater area classification and temperaturecode are suitable for the hazardous areaclassification. For details of hazardouslocations with potential for explosion, referto the Canadian Electrical Code or NationalElectrical Code.2.3 Check to ensure that the heater voltage is thesame as the supply voltage.2.4 The heater must be installed by qualifiedpersonnel in strict compliance with nationaland local electrical codes.WARNINGDO NOT CONNECT THE HEATER TO ANELECTRICAL SUPPLY VOLTAGE OTHERTHAN THAT SHOWN ON THE PRODUCTNAMEPLATE.3.0 INSTALLATION - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 NorsemanTM XB heaters are approved for wallor floor mounting with the terminal housing atthe bottom. Ensure that is the wall sufficientlystrong to support the heater which, dependingon the model, could weigh up to 100 lbs (45kg). Otherwise use the brackets supplied tostand the heater on the floor.3.2 Do not recess the NorsemanTM XB heaterinto the wall. Use of the brackets supplied willensure that the minimum spacing from thewall of 3.75” (95 mm) is maintained.3.3 If more than one heater is being installed,maintain at least 3” (76 mm) between adjacentheater extrusions. NEVER INSTALL ONEHEATER ABOVE THE OTHER.3.4 The NorsemanTM XB heater relies on naturalconvection and “black heat” radiation to transferheat to the surroundings.
