Getting Started with the Contivity Extranet Switch 1500 Series5-12PublicIndicates that this interface is attached to a Public data network like theInternet. On a Public interface, the Switch rejects non-tunneled protocols andaccepts only tunneled protocols, such as IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, L2F and thediagnostic protocol PING.A host can send only enough packets to a Public interface to establish a tunnelconnection. If the tunnel is not established before the preset maximum-number-ofpackets-allowed counter is reached, then the Switch discards the packets from thathost.PrivateIndicates that this interface is attached to the Private network and that it can acceptnon-tunneled networking protocols such as TCP/IP, FTP, and HTTP. The Privateinterface also accepts tunneled protocols (such as IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, and L2F)that can be used for secure management access to the Switch.PPTP UsersUser IDEnter a User ID. The User ID works along with the password as the authenticationmechanism when attempting to access your local LAN through the Switch.PasswordEnter a user Password. You should use a minimum of eight characters, includingupper and lowercase letters and numbers. Avoid using common names and wordsfound in the dictionary.
