8 Policy management on the Nortel Ethernet Switch 460, Ethernet Switch 470, and BPS318396-4.1EPM access requirementsIn order for EPM to be able to send policy configuration to your networkingdevices, COPS-PR, SNMP and Telnet connections must be permitted on yourdevices. The following protocols and port numbers are required forcommunication between the various components of the EPM product family andyour networking devices:• The management console uses LDAP (port 389 default) to communicate withthe directory server. It uses SNMP to communicate with Policy Servers andnetworking devices. Remote access to the directory requires HTTP (port 80default).• The Policy Server uses LDAP (port 389 default) to communicate with thedirectory server. It uses COPS-PR (port 3288 default) and SNMP (ports 161and 162) to communicate with networking devices and the Interface Manager.• The Interface Manager uses LDAP (port 389 default) to communicate withthe directory server.
