Policy-managementOptivity Policy Services—a suite of policy-management software that enforces business-levelpolicies automatically across the network now supports BayStack 5510 Switches. OPSsupports network managers by providing centralized control of advanced packet classificationand the ability to priority mark, police, meter, or block traffic.Fault management and resolutionWith Optivity Network Management System (ONMS), the network manager has quickaccess to the information required to manage and isolate all network events on BayStack 5510switches. Tools, such as Physical Topology View, inform the network manager how a particularevent is affecting the physical connectivity within the network. The ‘End Node Locate’ toolprovides the ability to locate a failing end node and, with one mouse click, provide access tothe RMON statistics for the failing Ethernet port supporting that end node. These solutionsprovide visual and statistical tools necessary to quickly resolve any network event or tomanage performance in real-time. The BayStack 5510 Switches support “syslog” capabilitythat helps in troubleshooting network issues.Port mirroringThe port mirroring feature (sometimes referred to as ‘conversation steering’) allows thenetwork administrator to designate a single switch port as a traffic monitor for a specifiedport. Port-based monitoring can be specified for ingress and egress at a specific port. MACaddress-based mirroring can also be specified. Additionally, an external probe device can beattached to the designated monitor port.User Interface push-buttonThe User Interface push-button on the front panel is provided for ease of use in configuringthe unit. It can be used for the purpose of base unit selection and for resetting the unit or thestack.LED indicatorsThe LED indicators on the front panel make it easy to monitor the switch status and help inisolating and diagnosing switch problems.
