Operating the Passport 5430306308-A Rev 00 6-11You can use the Reset buttons to reboot the Passport 5430 hardware withoutcycling power, as follows:• To warm-boot the Passport 5430 (no diagnostic tests run), press the Soft Resetbutton.If the BayRS operating system is executing when you press the Soft Resetbutton, the log is preserved.If power-up diagnostics are executing when you press the Soft Reset button,the power-up sequence halts and the Diag prompt appears on the console.• To cold-boot the Passport 5430 (diagnostic tests run), press the Hard Resetbutton.If the BayRS operating system is executing when you press the Hard Resetbutton, the log is not preserved.Protecting Flash Memory Card FilesNortel Networks ships each memory card with its read/write protect switch in theunprotected position (see Figure 6-7 on page 6-12). After successfully loading theconfiguration file and saving your configuration, you might want to write-protectthe memory card for backup purposes.You typically do not operate the Passport 5430 with a write-protected memorycard as this will prevent software and configuration updates over the network.Make a copy of your configuration on another memory card or database. If youmake a card copy of your configuration, write-protect that card, and store it in asafe place.Note: If you reset the Passport 5430 while it is running its diagnostic tests, theLEDs remain in the state that they were in when you pressed the Reset button.You must cycle power on the Passport 5430 to reset the LEDs.Note: The Passport 5430 supports only 5 volt (V) flash memory cards. ThePassport 5430 does not support 12 V BayRS™ flash memory cards.
