The primary use of this tool is to check if the health of the server is safe beforeupgrading.The health checks run by default with every upgrade and they occur before the actual packageupgrade. However, you can run the diagnostic tool, ndscheck (or dscheck on NetWare), to do thehealth checks at anytime.B.1 Need for Health ChecksIn earlier releases of eDirectory, the upgrade did not check the health of the server before proceedingwith the upgrade. If the heath was unstable, the upgrade operation would fail and eDirectory wouldbe in an inconsistent state. In some cases, you probably could not roll back to the pre-upgradesettings.This new health check tool resolves this, letting you to ensure that your server is ready to upgrade.B.2 Performing Health ChecksYou can perform server health checks in two ways:NOTE: You need administrative rights to run the health check utility. You can enable or disable thehealth checks when prompted to do so.B.2.2 As a Standalone UtilityYou can run the server health checks as a standalone utility anytime you want. The following tablelists the health check utility names for each platform.
