Printer settings in Windows> 17PRINTER SETTINGS IN W INDOWSYour printer’s operator panel menus provide access to manyoptions.The Windows printer driver also contains settings for many ofthese items. Where items in the printer driver are the same asthose in the operator panel menus, and you print documentsfrom Windows, the settings in the Windows printer driver willoverride those items in the operator panel menus.The illustrations in this chapter show Windows XP. OtherWindows versions may appear slightly different, but theprinciples are the same.PRINTING PREFERENCES IN WINDOWS APPLICATIONSWhen you choose to print your document from a Windowsapplication program a Print dialogue box appears. This dialogueusually specifies the name of the printer on which you will printyour document. Next to the printer name is a Properties button.When you click Properties a new window opens which contains ashort list of the printer settings available in the driver, which youcan choose for this document. The settings available from withinyour application are only those which you may want to change forspecific applications or documents. Settings you change here willusually only last for as long as the particular application programis running.
