11Choosing a Color Matching MethodThere is no one way to achieve a good match between the documentdisplayed on your monitor and its printed equivalent. There are manyfactors involved in achieving accurate and reproducible color.However, the following guidelines may help in achieving good coloroutput from your printer. There are several suggested methods,depending on the type of document you are printing.RGB or CMYK?The guidelines for choosing a color matching method makesdistinctions between Red, Green, Blue (RGB) and Cyan, Magenta,Yellow, Black (CMYK).Generally, most documents you print will be in RGB format. This isthe most common, and, if you do not know your document’s colormode, assume that it is RGB.Typically CMYK documents are only supported in professionalDesktop Publishing and Graphics applications.Matching Photographic ImagesRGB OnlyThe standard Color Matching (found in the printer driver underColor Matching) is a generally a good choice. Select a matchingmethod appropriate to your monitor.RGB or CMYKIf you are printing photographic images from a graphicsapplication such as Adobe Photoshop, you may be able to useSoft-Proofing to simulate the printed image on your monitor. To dothis, you can use the ICC-Profiles provided, and then print usingthe ICC profiles as the Print Space (or Output space).NOTEThese suggestions are for guidance only. Your results mayvary depending on the application from which you areprinting. Some applications will override any color matchingsettings in the printer driver without warning.
