2Safety InformationYour OKI printer has been carefully designed to give you yearsof safe, reliable performance. As with all electrical equipment,there are a few basic precautions you should take to avoidhurting yourself or damaging the printer.• Carefully read the provided setup and operating instructions.• Save all provided documentation for future reference.• Read and follow all warning and instruction labels on theprinter itself.• Unplug the printer before you clean it. Use only a damp cloth.Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.• Place your printer on a firm, solid surface. If you put it onsomething unsteady, it may fall and be damaged. If you placeit on a soft surface, such as a rug, sofa, or cushion, the ventsmay be blocked, causing the printer to overheat.• Protect your printer from overheating. Make sure noobstructions block the openings of the printer. Do not put theprinter on or near a heat source (such as a radiator or heatregister). Keep the printer out of direct sunlight. Allow enoughroom around the printer for adequate ventilation and easyaccess to the paper trays. If you put the printer in any kind ofenclosure, make sure the enclosure is properly ventilated.• Do not use your printer near water. Do not spill liquid of anykind into it.• Be certain that your power source matches the rating listed onthe back of the printer. If you are not sure, check with yourdealer or with your local power company.• Your printer has a grounded, three-prong plug as a safetyfeature. This plug only fits into a grounded outlet. If the plugdoes not fit, the outlet may be an older, non-grounded type.Contact an electrician to have the outlet replaced. Do not usean adapter to defeat the grounding.• Install the printer near an easily accessed power outlet.• Avoid damaging the power cord. Do not put anything on it orplace it where it will be walked on. If the cord becomesdamaged or frayed, replace it immediately.• If you are using an extension cord or power strip with theprinter, make sure that the total of the amperes required by allthe equipment on the extension is less than the extension’srating. The total ratings of all equipment plugged into theoutlet should not exceed 15 amperes.• Do not poke anything into the ventilation slots of the printer.You could get an electrical shock or cause hazardous electricalarcing, which could cause a fire.• Aside from the routine maintenance described in thedocumentation, do not try to service the printer yourself.Removing the cover may expose you to shocks or otherhazards.• Do not make any adjustments other than those outlined in thedocumentation. You may cause damage that will requireextensive repair work. The provided documentation explainshow to get your printer serviced by qualified Oki Datatechnicians.If anything happens that indicates that your printer is notworking properly or has been damaged, unplug it immediatelyand follow the procedures in the provided documentation forhaving your printer serviced.Here are some of the things to look for.• The power cord or plug is frayed or damaged.• Liquid has been spilled into the printer, or the printer has beenexposed to water.• The printer has been dropped, or the cabinet is damaged.• The printer does not function normally when you arefollowing the operating instructions.ENERGY STAR®As an ENERGY STAR Program Participant, themanufacturer has determined that this productmeets the ENERGY STAR guidelines forenergy efficiency.Year 2000 ComplianceAll products currently sold by Oki Data are Year 2000Compliant. Each product contains information technology thataccurately processes date and time data between the years 1999and 2000, and carries no issue for the September 9, 1999 (9999)programming concern. These products, when used incombination with products purchased from other manufacturers,whose products properly exchange data and time information,will accurately process the date and time. All future products arecommitted to meeting the same Year 2000 compliance.
