52 ENBattery Handling PrecautionsOlympus NiMH batteries (included in some areas)are intended for use only with Olympus digitalcameras. Never use these batteries with any otherdevice.Always charge NiMH batteries (included in someareas) before using them for the fi rst time, or ifthey have not been used for a long period.Always charge sets of batteries (included in someareas) (2 or 4) together.Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutelynecessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries mayhave a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkalinebattery performance is limited, especially atlow temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries isrecommended.AA manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries cannot beused with this camera.When operating the camera with battery powerat low temperatures, try to keep the cameraand spare batteries as warm as possible.Batteries which run down at low temperaturesmay be restored after they are warmed at roomtemperature.Recommended temperature ranges for NiMHbatteries:Operation ................... 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F)Charge ....................... 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F)Storage.......................-20°C to 30°C (-4°F to 86°F)Using, charging or storing the batteries outsidethese ranges could shorten battery life or affectbattery performance. Always unload the batteriesfrom the camera before storing the camera for along period.Before using NiMH batteries, always read theprovided instructions.The number of pictures you can take may varydepending on the shooting conditions or batteries.Before going on a long trip, and especially beforetraveling abroad, purchase an ample supply ofextra batteries. The recommended batteries maybe diffi cult to obtain while traveling.Please recycle batteries to help save our planet’sresources. When you throw away dead batteries,be sure to cover their terminals and alwaysobserve local laws and regulations.••••••••••••LCD MonitorDo not push the monitor forcibly; otherwise theimage may become vague, resulting in a playbackmode failure or damage to the monitor.A strip of light may appear on the top/bottom of themonitor, but this is not a malfunction.When a subject is viewed diagonally in thecamera, the edges may appear zigzagged on themonitor. This is not a malfunction; it will be lessnoticeable in playback mode.In places subject to low temperatures, the LCDmonitor may take a long time to turn on or itscolor may change temporarily. When using thecamera in extremely cold places, it is a good ideato occasionally place it in a warm place. An LCDmonitor exhibiting poor performance due to lowtemperatures will recover in normal temperatures.The LCD used for the monitor is made withhigh-precision technology. However, black spotsor bright spots of light may appear constantly onthe LCD Monitor.
