Getting to know your camera better52 ENThere are several ways to focus, depending on the subject.When the subject is not in the center of the frame• Place the subject in the center of the frame, lock the focus on the subject, and then recomposeyour picture.• Set [AF MODE] to [iESP].g “AF MODE Changing the focusing area” (P.28)The subject is moving quickly• Focus the camera on a point roughly the same distance away as the subject you want toshoot and lock the focus (by pressing the shutter button halfway). Then recompose yourpicture and press the shutter button completely as the subject enters the frame.• Under certain types of conditions, it is difficult to focus using Auto focus.In these cases, focus (focus lock) on an object with high contrast at the same distance asthe intended subject, recompose your shot and then take the picture. If the subject hasno vertical lines, hold the camera vertically and focus the camera using the focus lockfunction by pressing the shutter button halfway, and then return the camera to thehorizontal position while keeping the button pressed halfway and take the picture.Be sure to hold the camera firmly with both hands and press the shutter button slowly so asto avoid moving the camera. You can also reduce the blurring by using the imagestabilization function during shooting.g “IMAGE STABILIZER (still picture)/DIS MOVIE MODE (movie) “Shooting pictures usingimage stabilization” (P.28)Pictures are more likely to be blurry when:• images are shot at a high-magnification zoom setting, i.e. using both optical zoom anddigital zoom functions,• the object is dark and the shutter speed is slow, or• scene modes where the flash is turned off and/or the shutter speed is slow.The flash is activated automatically when there is insufficient light, or when the camera isshaken.
