Replace the cap on theOil Fill Port.Recheck the oil level, using the dip-5.stick. Add or remove oil if necessary.Do not operate the engine with toomuch or too little oil.Inspect before operation.6.air Filter element maintenanceWipe off the air cleaner cover.1.The air cleaner cover is held in place2.by a wing nut or clamps. Remove it.Remove the air filter element.3.cleaning:4.For “paper” filter elements:a.To prevent injury from dust anddebris, wear ANSI-approved safetygoggles, NIOSH-approved dustmask/respirator, and heavy-dutywork gloves. In a well-ventilatedarea away from bystanders, usepressurized air to blow dust outof the air filter from the side oppo-site the filter’s normal air flow (the“clean” side of the filter).If this does not get the filter reason-ably clean, replace it.For foam filter elements:b.Wash the element in warm waterand mild detergent several times.Rinse. Squeeze out excess waterand allow it to dry completely. Soakthe filter in lightweight oil briefly, thensqueeze out the excess oil.Install the new filter or the cleaned4.filter. Secure the Air Cleaner Coverbefore use.Spark Plug maintenanceDisconnect spark plug wire from1.end of plug. Clean out debris fromaround spark plug.Using a spark plug wrench, remove2.the spark plug.Inspect the spark plug:3.If the electrode is oily, clean it using aclean, dry rag.If the electrode has deposits on it,polish it using emery paper.If the white insulator is cracked orchipped, the spark plug needs to bereplaced.When installing a new spark plug, ad-4.just the plug’s gap to the specificationon the Technical specification chart(page 14). Do not pry against theelectrode or the insulator, the sparkplug can be damaged.Install the new spark plug or the5.cleaned spark plug into the engine.Gasket-style: Finger-tighten until thegasket contacts the cylinder head,then about 1/2-2/3 turn more.Non-gasket-style: Finger-tighten untilthe plug contacts the head, thenabout 1/16 turn more.Apply dielectric spark plug cap pro-6.tector to the end of the spark plugand reattach the wire securely.
