18Operating precautionsThe portable recorder and SD Memory Cardbecome warm during usage. This is not a defect.Do not allow any water to get into the unit whenusing it in the rain or snow or at the beach.• Failure to heed this caution will cause the unitor a card to malfunction (and may result inirreparable damage). The portable recorder should be used as faras possible from sources of magnetism andelectromagnetism (cell phones, microwaveovens, TVs, game machines, etc.).• If the portable recorder is operated on top of orclose to a TV, the electromagnetism can causedistortion of audio and video.• Strong magnetism from speakers, large motors, etc. cancause recordings to be lost and video to be distorted.• Electromagnetic waves emitted from digitalcircuits, including microcomputers, can impacteach other, causing distortion of audio and video.• If the portable recorder is so adversely affectedthat it does not operate normally, remove theAC adaptor, reconnect it and turn the power onagain. As much as possible, avoid using the portablerecorder close to radio towers and high-voltage lines.• If used close to these places, radio waves and highvoltage can adversely affect recorded audio and video.Use the cords and cables that are provided with theportable recorder or separately sold accessories.Do not extend the cords and cables to use.If using the portable recorder at the beach orany place that is sandy or dusty, take care thatsand and dust do not get inside the portablerecorder or on its terminals. Do not allow theportable recorder to get wet with salt water, etc.• Sand and dust can damage the unit or a card.(Be especially careful when inserting or removinga card.)• If the portable recorder has come in contact withsalt water, wipe with a cloth that has been wellwrung out, then wipe with a dry cloth. If insect sprays or other volatile substances arebeing used in the area, take care that they donot come in contact with the portable recorder.• These can warp the unit or cause the finish to come off.• Do not leave the unit in contact with rubber orPVC products for extended periods of time. When carrying the portable recorder, take carenot to drop it or let it hit other objects.• Strong impact can cause the outer case to breakor damage the portable recorder.AC adapter• The AC adapter can interfere with radio receptionso keep radios at least 1 meter away from it.• The AC adapter may make some noise when youare using it, but this is normal.Place the portable recorder close to a poweroutlet, and make sure that a cutoff (the powerplug) is easily accessible. After use, disconnect the AC power supplycable.About the SD Memory Card• The memory capacity shown on the SD MemoryCard label is the total of the capacity provided forcopyright protection and management and thecapacity that is usable as ordinary memory in theportable recorder, in a PC, etc.• Protect the SD Memory Card from strong impact, bending and dropping.• Electrical noise, static electricity and failure of theportable recorder or SD Memory Card can resultin damage or loss of data on the SD MemoryCard.• If used for a long period of time, the portablerecorder surface and SD Memory Card willbecome somewhat hot, but this is not a sign ofproduct failure.Cautions for usage of SD Memory Cards• Do not allow dirt, water, or other substances tocome into contact with the connector part on thereverse of the card.• Do not leave the card in the following places:– In direct sunlight or in places of high temperatures.e.g. close to heating equipment– In highly humid or dusty locations– In locations with high variations in temperature(condensation may appear on card)– In places subject to static electricity orelectromagnetic waves• Store cards in bags or cases after use.
