Using an answering machineProblemlYour greeting message on the answering machine is toolong. Shorten the message (up to 10 seconds).lThe answering machine rings too many times. Set to 1 or 2rings.lCheck if the answering machine is turned on andconnected to the fax machine properly (p. 42).lSet the number of rings on the answering machine to 1or 2.lThe remote access code on your answering machine is thesame as your fax activation code. Set a different numberfor features #12 (p. 51) and #41 (p. 54).lYou did not program your remote access code in your faxmachine correctly. Program the same code that isprogrammed on the answering machine to the fax machinewith feature #12 (p. 51).lThe code may include “#” which is used for certain featuresprovided by telephone companies. Change the code on theanswering machine to another number which does notinclude “#”. Also change the code of the fax machine withfeature #12 (p. 51).lYour answering machine has run out of recording tape.Rewind the tape to record messages.lYou set the answering machine to only give a greetingmessage.Cause & solutionI cannot receive documentsautomatically.I cannot receive voicemessages.I cannot retrieve recorded voicemessages on the answeringmachine from a remotelocation.I pressed the remote accesscode to access the answeringmachine remotely, but the linewas disconnected.Callers complain that theycannot send a document.62OperationsFor fax advantage assistance, call 1-800-435-7329.CopyingProblemlYou cannot make a copy during programming. Make thecopy after programming or stop programming.lThe glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 67).lThe thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 68).lSome paper has instructions recommending which side toprint on. Try turning the paper over. We recommend smoothpaper such as Hammermill Jet Print for clearer printing.lYou may have used paper with a cotton and/or fibercontent that is over 20%, such as letterhead or resumepaper.
