11PreparationSetting upBattery InformationAfter your Panasonic battery is fullycharged:Ni-MH Batteries (typical 700 mAh)Ni-Cd Batteries (typical 250 mAh)• Times indicated are for peakperformance.• The battery operating time may beshortened depending on usageconditions and ambient temperature.• Clean the charge contacts of thehandset and the base unit with asoft, dry cloth once a month. Cleanmore often if the unit is subject togrease, dust or high humidity.Otherwise the battery may not chargeproperly.• The batteries cannot be overchargedunless they are repeatedly removedand replaced.• For maximum battery life, it isrecommended that the handset not berecharged until the battery icon flashes.Replacing theBatteriesIf the icon flashes after a fewtelephone calls even when the handsetbatteries have been fully charged, bothbatteries must be replaced.• Charge new batteries forapproximately 7 hours before initialuse.• When replacing the batteries, besure to set up the battery type evenif you install the same type ofbatteries to initialise batteryremaining memory of your handset.(See Setting the Battery Type onpage 43.)• Do not use non-rechargeable batteries.If non-rechargeable batteries are fittedand start charging, it may cause theleakage of the battery electrolyte.• Press the notch on the cover firmly andslide it as indicated by the arrow.Replace both batteries (p.10) andclose the cover then charge thehandset for about 7 hours.Please order PanasonicHHR-4EPT (Ni-MH) or P-4NPT (Ni-Cd)batteries.Operation Operating TimeWhile in use (TALK) 10 hrs approx.While not in use(Standby) 120 hrs approx.Operation Operating TimeWhile in use (TALK) 4 hrs approx.While not in use(Standby) 40 hrs approx.
