56Safety InstructionsTake special care to follow the safety suggestionslisted below.Safety1) Power Source: The Charger should be con-nected to a power supply only of the typedescribed in the operating instructions or asmarked on the Charger.2) Non use Periods: When the portable station(PS) is not being used, turn the power off.When left unused for a long period of time, theCharger should be unplugged from the house-hold AC outlet.InstallationEnvironment1) Water and Moisture: Do not use this PS andthe Charger near water – for example, near abath tub, washbowl, sink, etc. Damp basementsshould also be avoided.2) Heat: The PS and the Charger should be keptaway from heat sources such as radiators,kitchen ranges, etc. It also should not be placedin rooms where the temperature is less than5°C (41°F) or greater than 40°C (104°F).Placement1) Stacking: Do not place heavy objects on top ofthe PS and Charger.2) Foreign Material: Care should be taken so thatobjects do not fall onto and liquids are notspilled into the PS and Charger. Do not subjectthe PS and Charger to excessive smoke, dust,mechanical vibration, or shock.3) Surface: Place the Charger on a flat surface.BatteryTo reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons, readand follow these instructions.1) Use only the battery specified.2) Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. It mayexplode. Check with local waste managementcodes for special disposal instructions.3) Do not open or mutilate the battery. Releasedelectrolyte is corrosive and may cause burns orinjury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte maybe toxic if swallowed.4) Exercise care in handling the battery in ordernot to short the battery to conductive materialssuch as rings, bracelets, and keys. The batteryand/or conductor may overheat and causeburns.5) Do not recharge batteries, which are providedor specified as replacement part for use withother products. The battery may leak corrosiveelectrolyte or explode.6) Do not attempt to rejuvenate the battery pro-vided with or identified for use with this prod-uct by heating. Sudden release of battery elec-trolyte may occur causing burns or irritation toeyes or skin.7) Remove the battery from this product if theproduct will not be used for a long period oftime (several months or more). During thistime the battery could leak in the product.8) Discard the “dead” battery as soon as possible.The “dead” battery may leak in the product.9) Do not store this product, or the battery provid-ed with or identified for use with this product,in high temperature areas. Batteries that arestored in a freezer or refrigerator for the pur-pose of extending shelf life should be protectedfrom condensation during storage and defrost-ing. Batteries should be stabilized at roomtemperature prior to use after cold storage.
