25Basic OperationFor assistance, please call: 1-800-211-PANA(7262)Lighted handset keypadThe handset dialing buttons will light when you press a button or lift thehandset off the base unit. They flash when a call is received with thehandset off the base unit.The lights will go out a few seconds after pressing a button, lifting thehandset, answering a call, hanging up a call, leaving the programmingmode or ending the intercom.Backlit LCD displayThe lighted handset display will stay on for a few seconds after pressing ahandset button, lifting the handset off the base unit, hanging up a call,leaving the programming mode or ending the intercom.Voice Enhancer TechnologyVoice Enhancer Technology (V.E.) helps clarify and improve soundreception creating a natural-sounding voice that is easy to hear andunderstand.This is accomplished by enhancing the frequency that is narrowedthrough the telephone line and comes pre-set to ON at the factory.Under normal conditions, cordless phones are limited to a narrowedfrequency bandwidth (300Hz to 3.5KHz). Panasonic’s new VoiceEnhancer Technology cordless phones are able to simulate a band signalabove and below the normal bandwidth limitations. As a result, a clearer,crisp sound much closer to the actual voice is achieved.•“V.E.” is displayed in the talk, speakerphone mode or when the unit is not beingused.Helpful hint:Depending on the condition and quality ofyour telephone line, Voice Enhancer mayemphasize the noise already on the line. If itbecomes difficult to hear the caller, pleaseset the Voice Enhancer mode to OFF.Each time you press (VOICEENHANCER),the mode will turn ON or OFF.V.E.“V.E.” indicates the VoiceEnhancer mode is turned ON.
