63 Others62Cleaning and replacing the air filterIf the air filter becomes clogged with dust, the internal temperature of theprojector will rise, the TEMP indicator will flash and the projector power willturn off. The air filter should be cleaned every 100 hours of use,depending on the location where the projector is being used.Cleaning procedure# Turn off the MAIN POWERswitch and disconnect thepower cord plug from themains socket.Turn off the MAIN POWER switchaccording to the procedure givenin “Turning off the power” onpage 29 before disconnecting theplug from the mains socket.$ Gently turn the projectorupside down.NOTE:B Place the projector on top of asoft cloth so that it will notbecome scratched.% Remove the air filter.Put your fingernails under the airfilter and pull the air filter out ofthe projector.& Clean the air filter.Use a vacuum cleaner to cleanoff any accumulated dust.NOTE:B Be careful not to let the air filterget sucked into the vacuumcleaner.' Install the air filter.NOTE:B Be sure to install the air filtercover before using the projector.If the projector is used without theair filter cover installed, dust andother foreign particles will bedrawn into the projector, andmalfunctions will result.B If the dust cannot be removed bycleaning, it is time to replace theair filter. Please consult yourdealer. Furthermore, if the lampunit is being replaced, replace theair filter at this time also.Air filterReplacing the lamp unitWarningWhen replacing the lamp, allow itto cool for at least one hourbefore handling it.B The lamp cover gets very hot,and contact with it can causeburns.Notes on replacing thelamp unitB The light generating lamp ismade of glass, so dropping it orallowing it to hit hard objects maycause it to burst. Be careful whenhandling the lamp.B After having removed the oldlamp, carelessly discarding it cancause the lamp to burst. Disposeof the lamp with the same carethat would be taken with afluorescent light.B A Phillips screwdriver isnecessary for removing the lampunit. Make sure that your handsare not slippery when using thescrewdriver.NOTE:B The projector is not supplied witha replacement lamp unit. Pleaseask your dealer for details. Lampunit product no.: ET-LA780CAUTION:B Do not use any lamp unit otherthan the one with the productnumber indicated above.Lamp unit replacementperiodThe lamp is a consumable product.Even when the full life of the bulbhas not been exhausted, thebrightness of the light will graduallydecline. Therefore periodicreplacement of the lamp isnecessary.The intended lamp replacementinterval is 1 500 hours, but it ispossible that the lamp may need tobe replaced earlier due to variablessuch as a particular lamp'scharacteristics, usage conditionsand the installation environment.Early preparation for lampreplacement is encouraged.A lamp that has exceeded 1 500hours of use has a much greaterchance of exploding. In order toprevent the lamp from exploding,the lamp will be automatically shutoff when 1 500 hours of use havebeen reached.NOTE:B The usage hours explainedabove are for use when the HIGHsetting has been selected forLAMP POWER in the OPTIONmenu. If the LOW setting isselected, the brightness of thelamp will be less and life of thelamp can be extended.B While 1 500 hours is the intendedreplacement interval, it is not aperiod of time covered bywarranty.
