96Aquarea air/ water heat pump – design handbook07 / 2014Project DesignHydraulicsHydraulic integrationPrior to connecting the return pipe to the heat pump, an in-line filter/strainer must be installed on the building side to protect the heat pump.The mesh size of the in-line filter/strainer must be minimum 500 to600 μm (micron), whereby the pressure loss though the installationof the dirt filter may not impair the operation of the heat pump. Failureto fit an in-line filter on install will invalidate the warranty, as well ascause permanent damage to the heat pump unit.A magnetic particle filter is also recommended to be fitted to the systembut is not a mandatory requirement, BUT a magnetic particle filer is notto be fitted in place of an inline filter only in addition to one.Depending on the nominal heating capacity of the heat pump systemthe following total water volume in the system must be available:Nominal heating capacity up to incl. 9 kW: 30 litresNominal heating capacity 12 kW up to incl. 16 kW: 50 litresIn-line Filter/StrainerNote If the total water volume in the system is lower than the specified values,the system water volume must be increased using a buffer tank or anadditional vessel.System volumeMagnetic Particle FilterBoth types of control reduce the pump speed when the differential pressureor resistance in the heating circuit increases. As a result, the volume cir-culation decreases to a far greater extent than with unregulated standardpumps, and can cause the volume flow to drop below the minimum (seetechnical data) and thus to a fault.As an alternative to hydraulic decoupling via a hydraulic switch or abuffer tank, it can be implemented via a bypass using multiple non-restrictable or permanently open heating circuits.Rooms with continuous high heating requirements such as bathroomsare suitable for this. When using this option, you must also ensure thatthe minimum volume flow of the heat pump is always guaranteed.Attention In contrast to standard pumps and pumps without differential pressurecontrol, a hydraulic decoupling must be established between the heatpump circuit and heat consumer circuit when using Aquarea heatpumps with high-efficiency pumps – auto-bypass valves cannot be used.
