Glossary140Termsactive CPU – The central processing unit of a network security systemoperating in the “active” mode, providing centralized control of theentire system. It may be backed up by a redundant CPU operating instandby mode, which is capable of taking over as the active CPU atany instant - upon instruction from the management switch.admin console – A PC-based graphical user interface (GUI) that facilitatesthe interaction between an NSS (network security system) and asystem administrator.alarm – A programmed association between an event and an action (normallyan automated sequence). For example: motion is detected on a videocamera, and this event triggers a pre-programmed action, such as acamera preset that is executed automatically by the system. A usercan also control an alarm.alarm identification number – A decimal number that uniquely identifies analarm within the system.alarm monitor – An external device that receives alarm status informationfrom the Main CPU, which acts as an interface with an externalalarm system - able to respond to WJ-SK850 8000 event sources,such as: video loss detection, motion detection, or digital input statechange detection.area – An administrator’s selective grouping of several locally numberedmonitors and one or more controllers. A control/communicationscenter for security will contain one or more areas.backup CPU – Same as redundant CPU.camera identification number – Unique record ID assigned by MPU955Admin Console as a camera is added, in order to identify one camerato the system.camera preset (CPreset)– A predetermined camera position.camera spot – A camera and its associated preset position. Also referred toas: spot.camera surveillance group (CSG) – Several cameras committed to anidentifiable physical space likely to be viewed from one or moremonitors as a preset or tour. This grouping can be a basis for logicalnumbering. For example, a CSG could be committed to a concourse,gift shop, cash register, or loading dock.camera-to-monitor permissions – Permit a camera to be viewed on certainmonitors, while denying access to others.camera number – A unique number permanently assigned to the specificlocation and port of an individual, installed camera. It is alwayslinked to a “logical” camera number (See logical camera number).
