25Troubleshooting Your SuperLine IADSymptom – Phones ActionThere is no dial toneat one or all of thethree PHONE jacks.Check the connections of the SuperLine IAD to the wall jack,and your devices to the SuperLine IAD. If the problempersists, contact your service provider.The existing (BASE)phone has dial tonebut does not ring.Verify the total Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) of all ofthe devices connected to your existing phone number andthe BASE PHONE jack does not exceed 5. REN is normallyspecified on a label on the phone, fax machine, or modem.You detect noise on aphone that uses thesame phone numberas the SuperLine IAD.Verify that every device in your home that uses the samephone number as the SuperLine IAD has a filter properlyinstalled (as described on page 4). This may include notonly phones, but answering machines, fax machines,modems, caller ID display devices, security alarm systems,TV-based Internet access devices, and direct broadcastsatellite receivers.The phone connectedto the PHONE 1/2 orPHONE 2 jack doesnot ring but you canplace calls.Verify the total Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) of all ofthe devices connected to your PHONE 1/2 or PHONE 2 jackdoes not exceed 3 each. REN is normally specified on alabel on the phone, fax machine, or modem.The PHONE 2 jackhas no dial tone.Verify that your service provider has supplied you with twoadditional lines.You detect noise onthe phone connectedto the PHONE 1/2 orPHONE 2 jack.Verify that every device in your home that uses the samephone number as the SuperLine IAD has a filter properlyinstalled (as described on page 4). This may include notonly phones, but answering machines, fax machines,modems, caller ID display devices, security alarm systems,TV-based Internet access devices, and direct broadcastsatellite receivers.Verify that you arenot using a 4-wire phone cable for thedevice connected to the PHONE 1/2 jack. Use only a 2-wirecable to connect a device to the PHONE 1/2 jack (unlessyou are connecting a 2-line phone as described on page 18).
