1IntroductionCAUTIONFederal Law in the U.S.A. and Canada restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a licensed practitioner.Intended UseThe cabinet mount installation kit and accessories areintended for use in mounting the Digital MDM® mixerand associated accessories. The Digital MDM mixer isintended for use by trained medical personnel only.User and Installer ResponsibilityIt is the responsibility of both the user and the installerto ensure that the correct gas, at the correct pressure,is supplied to the fittings at the rear of the unit. SeeSpecifications in the Digital MDM Operations Manual.System NotesMatrx by Parker recommends the use of a permanentlymounted oxygen analyzer in the patient circuit tomonitor the oxygen levels being administered to thepatient. Additional monitoring should be employedparticularly if the delivered oxygen and nitrous oxide isbeing used as background to intravenous or inhalantdeep sedation and anesthesia. TheAmerican Society ofAnesthesiology (ASA) encourages the use of an ECG,a Blood Pressure Monitor, and a Pulse Oximeter inthese cases.NFPA Requirements and WarningsGeneral System RequirementsThe Digital MDM mixer complies with the National FireProtection Association (NFPA) 99C code requirements. The NFPA is a body which has formulated a set ofregulations widely adopted by local building authoritiesas the basis for their own local building coderequirements. Do not change fittings or tubing sizesfrom those specified in this manual. The fittings andtubing incorporate unique tubing sizes for each gas, animportant safety feature to prevent accidental crossingof lines during installation or maintenance. The following basic requirements must be observed:1. Remote tank rooms must be locked.2. Ventilation of at least 72 square inches is requiredin the tank room or the cabinet.WARNINGMedical gas fittings are manufactured according tothe Diameter Indexed Safety System (DISS) toprevent the delivery of the wrong gas to the patient. The correct supply line sizes are as follows:oxygen 1/2” OD coppernitrous oxide 3/8” OD copperevacuation 5/8” OD copperThe installer must ensure that each gas isconnected to the proper stop valve to preserve theintegrity of the Diameter Indexed Safety System(DISS).3. Type K or L seamless, copper tubing or standardweight brass piping is required.4. Copper-to-copper joints made using phosphorousbrazing filler are allowed without flux.5. During brazing, piping must be continuously purgedwith dry nitrogen.6. The piping system must be tested for leaks at 150psi followed by a 24-hour pressure test at 75 psi.NOTEDo not connect the Digital MDM during thesepipeline tests.Manifold RequirementsThe Digital MDM mixer is intended for Type II facilitiesconsisting of less than 2000 cu.ft. of gas and less thanten use points for the gas.1. All systems shall be a minimum 2+2 configuration.2. For a non-remote tank room, manual or automaticswitchover is permitted. For a remote tank room, automatic switchover is required.NOTEA tank room is considered remote when itcannot be accessed from within the office.3. A remote tank room requires a remote shutoffvalve.4. Each tank requires independent pressureregulators.
