Contact NIOSH (1-800-35-NIOSH) toreceive NIOSH Publications on Control of Nitrous Oxidein Dental Operatories. Exposure can be minimized byeffective controls. National Institute for OccupationalSafety and Health (NIOSH) publications state thatcontrols, including System Maintenance, Ventilationand Work Practices can effectively reduce N2Oconcentrations in patient procedures. Your flowmeteraccessory Porter scavenger system is an important partof the system of controls.WARNING: Porter Instrument equipment utilizes thecross+protection system. The flexible hose andconnectors that connect to the flowmeter are diameterindexed; 3/8” O.D. for Nitrous Oxide and ½” for Oxygen. The cross+protection system is designed to preventmisconnection of Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide piping. DONOT ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THE DIAMETERS ORCONNECTORS OF THE FLOWMETER! Tamperingwith the cross+protection system constitutesacceptance of liability by the installer. For your ownprotection, as well as that of the Doctor and the patients, use 3/8” O.D. tubing for all Nitrous Oxide lines and ½”O.D. tubing for all Oxygen lines. To assure safe operation and conformation to local firecodes, all Porter Instrument flowmeter systems aredesigned to be used with sedation delivery systemsmounted inside walls and they meet or exceed theguidelines established by the National Fire ProtectionAssociation for Nonflammable Medical Gas Systems,NFPA 99. Copies of NFPA 99 or portions thereof maybe obtained by writing to: National Fire ProtectionAssociation, Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269-9904; or call 1-800-344-3555WARNING: New or modified installations - properlyconnected gas pipelines are absolutely essential topatient safety. The authorized distributor or contractorshould provide written documentation that all gaspipelines are connected properly and that the systemhas been pressure tested prior to use. While this is agood business practice, it is important that the userverify by their own test, independent of the authorizeddistributor or contractor, that all gas pipelines areconnected correctly prior to using the system. Theultimate responsibility of assuring that lines are notcrossed rests with the user.WARNING: During any power outage, remember toturn OFF the flowmeter and manually turn OFF the tankvalves. With centralized, electrically powered gassystems, if gas was flowing when the power went outand the flowmeter is left ON, gas will be flowing whenthe power is restored.CAUTION: This device is for use by or on the order ofa physician, dentist or licensed healthcare professional.CAUTION: Always use clean, dry medical grade gases.Introduction of moisture or other contaminants into thisdevice may result in defective operation.CAUTION: Do not attempt to repair, alter or calibratethis device.
