19 20Powering the 1001R14 RackThe power supplies that are shipped with your 1001R14 rack sys-tem are equipped with a power entry connector on the rear cards. Thepower supplies are Hot-Swappable, so you are not required to removethe cards from the rack when applying power to the system. PattonElectronics recommends that if you wish to power OFF the rack, thatyou remove the front card instead of removing the power cable fromthe back of the rack. Keeping the power cable connected allows therack to remain grounded.4.2 INSTALLING MODEL 1094ARC SERIES INTO THE CHASSISThe Model 1094ARC Series is comprised of a front card and arear card. The two cards meet inside the rack chassis and plug intoeach other by way of mating 50 pin card edge connectors. Use the fol-lowing steps as a guideline for installing each Model 1094ARC Seriesinto the rack chassis:1. Slide the rear card into the back of the chassis along themetal rails provided.2. Secure the rear card using the metal screws provided.3. Slide the front card into the front of the chassis. It shouldmeet the rear card when it’s almost all the way into the chas-sis.4. Push the front cardgently into the card-edge receptacle of therear card. It should “click” into place.5. Secure the front card using the thumb screws.4.3 WIRING THE MODEL 1094ARC SERIESEach of the rear interface cards compatible with the Model1094ARC Series has one terminal interface port and one 2-wire (twist-ed pair) port. For specific interface pin-outs, refer to the diagrams inAppendix C and E of this manual..4.3.1 Connection to the Twisted Pair InterfaceThe Model 1094ARC supports communication between two DTEdevices at distances to 5 miles (8 km) over 24AWG (.5mm) twisted pairwire. There are two essential requirements for installing the Model1094ARC:1. These units work inpairs. Therefore, you must have oneModel 1094ARC (or a compatible model) at each end of a sin-gle twisted pair interface.2. To function properly, the Model 1094ARC needs one twistedpair of metallic wire. This twisted pair must beuncondi-tioned, dry, metallic wire, between 19 (.9mm) and 26 AWG(.4mm) (the higher number gauges may limit distance somewhat). Standard dial-up telephone circuits, or leased circuitsthat run through signal equalization equipment, or standard, flat modular telephone type cable, arenot acceptable.4.3.2 Two-Wire Cable Connection Via RJ-451. The RJ-45 connector on the Model 1094ARC’s twisted pairinterface is polarity insensitive and is wired for a two-wireinterface.The signal/pin relationships are shown in Figure 10below.NOTE: Please refer to the Model 1001RP14 Series UserManualAC and DC Rack Mount Power Supplies for fuse andpower card replacement information.Figure 10.
