177.Customer care and warranty7. Customer care andwarranty7.1 Philips’ Flat Panel MonitorsPixel Defect PolicyPhilips strives to deliver the highestquality products. We use someof the industry's most advancedmanufacturing processes and practicestringent quality control. However,pixel or sub pixel defects on the TFTMonitor panels used in flat panelmonitors are sometimes unavoidable.No manufacturer can guarantee thatall panels will be free from pixeldefects, but Philips guarantees thatany monitor with an unacceptablenumber of defects will be repairedor replaced under warranty. Thisnotice explains the different types ofpixel defects and defines acceptabledefect levels for each type. In order toqualify for repair or replacement underwarranty, the number of pixel defectson a TFT Monitor panel must exceedthese acceptable levels. For example,no more than 0.0004% of the subpixels on a monitor may be defective.Furthermore, Philips sets even higherquality standards for certain types orcombinations of pixel defects that aremore noticeable than others. This policyis valid worldwide.subpixelpixelPixels and Sub pixelsA pixel, or picture element, is composedof three sub pixels in the primary colorsof red, green and blue. Many pixelstogether form an image. When all subpixels of a pixel are lit, the three coloredsub pixels together appear as a singlewhite pixel. When all are dark, the threecolored sub pixels together appear as asingle black pixel. Other combinationsof lit and dark sub pixels appear assingle pixels of other colors.Types of Pixel DefectsPixel and sub pixel defects appear onthe screen in different ways. There aretwo categories of pixel defects andseveral types of sub pixel defects withineach category.Bright Dot DefectsBright dot defects appear as pixels orsub pixels that are always lit or 'on'. Thatis, a bright dot is a sub-pixel that standsout on the screen when the monitordisplays a dark pattern. There are thetypes of bright dot defects.One lit red, green or blue sub pixel.Two adjacent lit sub pixels:- Red + Blue = Purple- Red + Green = Yellow- Green + Blue = Cyan (Light Blue)
