This occurswhen the flammable gases have been mostly burned andonly charcoal remains. This is a naturally clean portion ofthe burn. The coals burn with hot blue flames. It is very important to reload your stove while enough livelyhot coals remain in order to provide the amount of heatneeded to dry and rekindle the next load of wood. It is bestto open the air controls for a short while before reloading. This livens up the coalbed. Open door slowly so that ashor smoke does not exit stove through opening. You shouldalso break up any large chunks and distribute the coals sothat the new wood is laid on hot coals.Air quality is important to all of us, and if we choose to usewood to heat our homes we should do so responsibly. Todo this we need to learn to burn our stoves in the cleanestway possible. Doing this will allow us to continue using ourwood stoves for many years to come.START-UP AIR SYSTEMThe combustion air enters at the rear of the firebox throughthe rear air tubes. This air supply is controlled by the Start-up Air Control. For more air push control in, for less air pullcontrol out.PRIMARY AIR SYSTEMThe primary air enters below the ash catcher and is directedto the upper front of the firebox, near the top of the glassdoor and to the lower front of firebox. This preheatedair supplies the necessary fresh oxygen to mix with theunburned gases, helping to create secondary, tertiary andquaternary combustions. This air is regulated by the PrimaryAir Slide Control. For more primary air slide control left, forless air, slide control to the right.Primary Slide ControlOPEN - SLIDE LEFTCLOSE - SLIDE RIGHTStart-Up ControlOPEN - PUSH INCLOSED - PULL OUTPrimary AirSlide Control Start-Up AirControlAIR CONTROLSFigure 19A
