1 IOMsDrive cabling topologies for the E5700 controller shelvesand the EF570 flash arraysThe E5700 controller shelf models are the E5724 and E5760. The total number of drive bays in thestorage array, including the drive bays in the controller shelf and those in the drive shelves, must notexceed 480. The total number of shelves (controller shelves and drive shelves) in a storage array mustnot exceed eight. You can cable E5700 controller shelves to SAS-3 drives shelves (DE460C or DE224C), SAS-2 drivetrays (DE6600 or DE5600) or combinations of SAS-2 and SAS-3 drive shelves. Use cables withmini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) connectors to connect SAS-3 drive shelves. Use cables with a mini-SAS(SFF-8088) connector on one end and a mini-SAS HD connector on the other end to connect SAS-2drive shelves to the controller shelf. Use cables with a mini-SAS connector on both ends forconnections between SAS-2 drive shelves.Note: When you install SAS cables, make sure that the blue tabs on the SAS cables face thebottom of the tray or shelf and that each connector clicks into place. When you cable a mix of SAS-2 and SAS-3 drive shelves to the same controller shelf, you should usea dual-stack configuration. Put all of the SAS-3 drive shelves in one stack and all of the SAS-2 driveshelves in the other stack. Attach expansion port 1 from each controller to the SAS-3 stack andexpansion port two from each controller to the SAS-2 stack. The EF570 controller shelf can be cabled to the DE224C drive shelves. The total number of drives inthe storage array, including the drives in the EF570 controller shelf and those in all of the attacheddrive shelves, must not exceed 120. The total number of trays in the storage array, including theEF570 flash array and all of the attached drive trays, must not exceed five. The drive shelves mustcontain only solid-state disks (SSDs).Note: When utilizing a E5700 controller in SAS-2 enclosures, support for base host ports isdisabled.
