F d b b l & h B l M lFinned copper tube gas boilers & water heaters – Boiler Manual23FFA ground joint union should be installed between the boiler gascontrols and the supply piping. Each of these items are needed toensure long life and ease of servicing. Always use a pipe sealant thatis suitable for use with LP gas.Always use a wrench on the gas valve body whenmaking gas connections to it. Never over-tighten thepiping entering the gas valve body or gas valve failuremay result! When applicable, provisions for vent, bleed and gas relief lines mustbe made in accordance with the latest revision of ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54. The main Dungs gas valve supplied with boiler/waterheater does not require external venting.Safe lighting and other performance criteria were met with thegas manifold and control assembly provided on the boiler. All gasconnections MUST be leak tested before putting the boiler intooperation.Never use an open flame to test for gas leaks. Always usean approved leak detection method. Failure to complywith this warning can cause extensive property damage, severe personal injury or death!Whenever the gas supply piping is pressure tested the boiler/waterheater gas controls must be protected. If the test pressure is equalto, or less than 1/2 psig, 3.5 kPa isolate the boiler/water heater byclosing it’s manual shut off valve, see Figure 16, page 22. If the testpressure is greater than, or equal to 1/2 psig, 3.5 kPa, disconnect theboiler/water heater and its individual shut-off valve.Table 11 Equivalent length (feet) for typical fittingsPipesizeFitting or valve90o elbow Tee(branch flow)GatevalveGascock2" 5.2 10.3 1.2 3.02½" 6.2 12.3 1.4 3.53" 7.7 15.3 1.8 4.54" 10.1 20.2 2.4 6.05" 12.6 25.2 2.9 7.36" 15.2 30.4 3.5 13.4Equivalent lengths above are for threaded fi ttings. Wiring errors can cause improper anddangerous operation!Verify proper operation after servicing.Failure to comply could result in severe personal injury, death or substantial property damage. The electrical connections to this boiler/waterheater must be made in accordance with allapplicable local codes and the latest revisionof the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA-70. Installation should also conform with CSAC22.1 Canadian Electrical Code Part I if installed inCanada.Install a separate 240 volt circuit breaker for the boiler/water heater . (SeeTable 12). A properly rated shut-offswitch should be located at the boiler/water heater. The boiler/water heater must be grounded in accordancewith the authority having jurisdiction, or if none, the latest revision of theNational Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA-70.Table 12 Futera XLF Electrical RequirementsFutera XLFModelRequiredCircuit Breaker(amps)FLA *2500-4000 25 17* Use separate circuit breaker that is properly sized for pumpand pump contactor.Line voltage field wiring of any controls or other devicesmust conform to the temperature limitation of type TEW orequivalent at 189oF, 105oC. Use appropriate wiring materials for unitsinstalled outdoors. The wire size must be compatible with the totalamp draw of the circuit.Refer to the wiring diagram supplied with the boiler/water heater forproper wiring connections and wire size.
