Fi d b b il & h B il M lFinned copper tube gas boilers & water heaters – Boiler Manual10FFThe vent piping must be large enough to safely vent thecombined output of all of the appliances connectedto the system. If an appliance using any type of a mechanical draftsystem operating under positive pressure is connectedto a chimney fl ue, never connect any other appliancesto this flue. Doing so can result in excessive levels ofcarbon monoxide which can cause severe personalinjury or death!CATEGORY II CHIMNEY INSPECTION& SIZINGMasonry chimneys, when used, must be lined with ametal liner certifi ed for Category IV venting.A thorough inspection of the masonry chimney must be performedto ensure that the chimney is clean, properly constructed, linedand sized. Exterior masonry chimneys should not be used unlessproperly lined to prevent condensation and draft problems.Table 6 lists the minimum riser sizes required for the Fusion boiler/water heater.Table 6 Equivalent Breeching & Chimney Size, Negative PressureModelSize Pipe Diameterin mm500 7 178750 7 1781000 8 2031250 8 2031500 8 2031750 10 2542000 10 254Note: These sizes are based on a 20 ft, 6.1 m chimney height.CATEGORY II VENT CONNECTIONSLocate the boiler/water heater as close to the chimney as possible.Use the shortest, straightest vent connector possible for the installation. If horizontal runs exceed 5 ft, 1.5 m they must be supported at 3 ft,0.9 m intervals with overhead hangers. The boiler vent connectors should be sloped up toward the breechingat a minimum rate of 1/4 in per ft , 21 mm per m.Always provide a minimum clearance of 6 in, 152 mm betweensingle wall vent pipe and any combustible materials.Failure to maintain minimum clearances betweenvent connectors and any combustible material canresult in a fire causing extensive property damage, severe personal injury or death!Vent ConnectionsLocate the boiler/water heater as close to the chimney as possible.Use the shortest, straightest vent connector possible for the instal-lation. Exit cone terminations must be supplied byothers, installed per manufacturer’s instructions, and meet local and federal code.OUTDOOR VENTINGWhen installed outdoors the Futera Fusion must be fi tted with thefactory supplied outdoor hood, air intake adapter with filter andexhaust terminal, see Figure 7. Multiple units must be spaced perFigure 8.The boiler/heater must be at least 2 ft, .62 m from any door, windowor gravity air inlet into any building and at least 3 ft, 1 m from anyoverhang unless local codes dictate diff erently.Avoid locations where wind deflection off of adjacent walls, buildings or shrubbery might cause a downdraft. The unit(s) shouldbe located at least 3 ft, 1 m from structures. Outdoor installationsare not recommended in areas where the danger of snow blockageexists.Do not place the boiler/water heater in a location thatwould subject it to runoff from adjacent buildings ordamage may occur voiding the warranty!Outdoor InstallationsThe Futera Boiler is certified for outside installationsin temperate climates only.1. The condensate traps located under the secondary heat exchangerand the vent pipe must be wrapped with heat tape to ensure thetraps never drop below 32°F.2. The vent pipe must be insulated to prevent freezing of condensatein the pipe.3. The boiler and system must be filled with an ethylene glycol/water antifreeze mixture not to exceed 50% glycol by volume.4. All water piping exposed to low temperatures must be insulated.generic exit cone
