To programthe universal remote to operate the VCR, youwould:Press and hold the VCR button while you en-ter the first code listed for Zenith in the VCRCodes column.Release the VCR button. Press ON•OFF to seeif the VCR responds. If it doesn’t, follow thesame steps, but enter the second code forZenith VCRs instead of the first.NoteSome of the remote’s buttons might operatedifferently for other components, especiallywhen you’re using another component’s menusystem.Using Direct Entry1. Turn on the component to be programmed.2. Look up the brand and code number(s) for the component on the code listin this section.3. Press and hold the component button you want to program on the remote.4. Enter the code from the remote control code list on the following pages. Ifthe indicator flashes, you have either entered an invalid code or the buttonisn’t programmable.5. Release the component button, point the remote at the component andthen press ON•OFF to see if the component responds to the command. If itdoesn’t, try pressing the component button and then ON•OFF again.• If you get no response, repeat these steps using the next code listed foryour brand, until the component responds to the remote commands.• If you try all the codes for your component brand and none work, try theautomatic code search method. If automatic code search doesn’t find thecode, the remote is not compatible with your component.How to Use the Remote After You’ve Programmed ItBecause this universal remote can control several different components (TV,DVD, VCR, satellite receiver, etc.) it uses operational modes triggered by thecomponent buttons. For example, if you want the remote to operate the TV,you would press the TV button to put the remote into TV mode before youcould control the TV.1. Press the appropriate component button (DVD, TV, VCR, SAT/CAB,AUX/HD, AUDIO) to set the remote to control the component.2. Press ON•OFF to turn the component ON or OFF.3. Use the remote buttons that apply to that component. The componentbutton on your remote lights up when you press valid buttons while in thatcomponent’s mode.Notes:• The remote may not be compatible with all brands and models ofcomponents. It also may not operate all functions of the remote thatcame with your component.• If you keep pressing buttons and nothing happens, the remote isprobably in the wrong mode. You must press the component buttonthat matches the component you want to operate (i.e., if you want tooperate the VCR, press VCR on the remote control to put the remotein VCR mode.)Using the INPUT ButtonUse the INPUT button to scroll through the available input channels and viewcomponents you have connected to the TV.1. Press TV to place the remote in TV mode. Make sure the component youwant to view is turned ON.2. Press INPUT until you reach the correct input channel.3. To return to the channel you were previously watching on TV, press CH+or CH- button.Component Buttons
