Using %% FeaturesParental Controls and V-ChipThe Parental Controt._ menu allows you to program your TV so that childrencannot see certain progrmns, channels, or use tile lkont panel controls. The first three choices in tile Parental Controls menu involve sot]ware insideyour TV (reli:rred to as V-Chip) which allows you to block TV programs andmovies based on violence, sex, or other conl_.nt you may believe childrenshould not view. In other words, it lets you program your TV so it won't displaycertain programs.Once you block programs, you or other adults can unblock programs byentering a password.By defmlt, the software inside your TV is turned "off," so if you don't want louse this t>ature, you can just ignore it.How V-Chip WorksWhen turned "on," the V-Chip software reads a code that most broadcaste_send with programs. That code tells tile software the program's age-based rating(TV-MA, TV-14, etc.) and conl_.nt them_.s [(Violence (V), Adult Language (L),etc.)]. If you have blocked the rating and/or content themes that the programcontains, you will receive the message, "This channel is not approved tbrviewing," when you tune to that particular channel.Broadcasters are not required to provide content thenles, so progranls receivedwith no content themes will only be blocked if you block their age-based rating. You can also block out programs that have been given a rating of 'Not 1,'ated,"and programs lhat are considered 'unrated" because no code has been sent bytile broadcaster. The TV age-based ratings and content themes you can blockare listed in the tl/llowing table.40
