SECTION 3: CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLES5SECTION 3: CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLES3.1 Required Clearances to CombustiblesClearances are the required distances that combustibleobjects must be away from the heater to prevent firehazards. Caution should be used when running thesystem near combustibles. Combustibles are materials, which may catch on fire and include common items suchas wood, paper, rubber, fabric, etc. Maintain clearancesto combustibles at all times for safety.Clearances for all heater models are located on Page 6,Figure 3 through Page 9, Figure 17 in this manual. Checkthe clearances on each burner for the model heater beinginstalled to make sure the product is suitable for yourapplication and the clearances are maintained. Read andfollow the safety guidelines below:• Keep petrol or other combustible materials includingflammable objects, liquids, dust or vapours away fromthis heater or any other appliance.• The stated clearances to combustibles represents asurface temperature of 32°C (90° F) above room tem-perature. Building materials with a low heat tolerance(such as plastics, vinyl siding, canvas, tri-ply, etc)may be subject to degradation at lower temperatures. It is the installer’s responsibility to assure that adja-cent materials are protected from degradation.• Maintain clearances from heat sensitive equipmentand workstations.• Maintain clearances from vehicles parked below theheater.• Maintain clearances from swinging and overheaddoors, overhead cranes, vehicle lifts, partitions, stor-age racks, hoists, building construction, etc.• In locations used for the storage of combustible mate-rials, signs must be posted to specify themaximum permissible stacking height to maintainrequired clearances from the heater to the combusti-bles. Signs must be posted adjacent to the heaterthermostat. In the absence of a thermostat, signsmust be posted in a conspicuous location.• Consult local Building Inspector, Fire InsuranceCarrier or other authorities for approval of proposedinstallation when there is a possibility of exposure tocombustible airborne materials or vapours.• Hang heater in accordance to the minimumsuspension requirements on Page 72, Section 18.6through Section 18.8.• If the radiant tubes must pass through the buildingstructure, be sure that adequate sleeving and firestop is installed to prevent scorching and/or firehazard.WARNINGFire HazardKeep all flammable objects, liquids andvapors the minimum required clearances tocombustibles away from heater. Some objects will catch fire or explode whenplaced close to heater.Failure to follow these instructions can resultin death, injury or property damage.
