12OperationàOperationBefore you use your walkie-talkie,you should know how to use it effec-tively and courteously. “OperationalHints” on Page 16 contains informa-tion that will help you get more enjoy-ment from your walkie-talkie.RECEIVINGTRANSMISSIONS ANDADJUSTING SQUELCH1. Turn SQUELCH fully counter-clockwise.2. Rotate OFF/VOLUME clockwiseuntil it clicks to turn on thewalkie-talkie. A channel numberappears.3. If necessary, repeatedly pressCB/WX until a channel numberand the signal meter appear (toselect the CB band) or until thesignal meter disappears (toselect the weather band).4. Repeatedly press8888or9999on theside of the walkie-talkie to selectthe desired channel.Note: If you press8888when thewalkie-talkie is tuned to channel40, the channel selector returnsto channel 1. If youpress9999when you are tuned tochannel 1, the channel selectorreturns to channel 40.5. Adjust OFF/VOLUME to thedesired listening level.6. To cut out background noisebetween transmissions, wait untilthere is no signal on the channel,then slowly turn SQUELCH clock-wise until the background noisestops.Note: Do not turn SQUELCH toofar clockwise because you mightcut out weak signals.7. To turn off the walkie-talkie, turnOFF/VOLUME counterclockwiseuntil it clicks.TRANSMITTINGWe recommend you try receivingtransmissions on the walkie-talkie be-fore you try to transmit. Follow thesesteps to transmit.1. Hold down PTT on the side of thewalkie-talkie. TX appears andthe signal meter shows the out-put level.
