4 5FRS-105USING THE RADIOSpeakerTo talk, hold the radiostraight up and downwith the microphoneat least 2 inches fromyour mouth, then holddown PUSH TO TALKand speak into themicrophone. Whenyou finish speaking,release PUSH TOTALK. (Do not touchthe antenna while youpress PUSH TO TALK.)To hear every-thing happeningon a channel,including weaktransmissionsand radios set toa different quietcode, hold downMONITOR.Release MONI-TOR to turn auto-squelch back on.To connect an external microphoneor earphone, pull up the accessorycover on the side of the radio, thenplug the microphone’s 3 /32 -inch pluginto the radio’s microphone jack orthe earphone’s 1/ 8 -inch plug into theradio’s earphone jack.Note: Your local RadioShack storehas a wide selection of external mi-crophones and earphones.To remove the attached beltclip, slide it up while using yourfingernail to pull the belt clip’stab toward you. To reattach thebelt clip, slide it down onto theback of the radio until it clicks.Listening SafelyTo protect your hearing, follow theseguidelines when you use an earphone.• Set the volume to the lowest settingbefore you begin listening. Thenadjust the volume to a comfortablelevel.• Don’t listen at extremely high vol-ume levels.• Once you set the volume, don’tincrease it.Traffic SafetyDo not wear an earphonewhile operating a motor vehi-cle or riding a bicycle.
