QAM256 Digital Video Modulator and Upconverter InstallationTM077 – Rev. 4.0 2-1Installation2This section provides unpacking and installation instructions, and a description of externalconnections and backward alarm information.2.0 Installation RequirementsThe QAM256 Modem is designed to be installed within any standard 19-inch wide equipmentcabinet or rack, and requires one rack unit (RU) of mounting space (1.75 inches) vertically and17¾ inches of depth. Including cabling, a minimum of 20 inches of rack depth is required. Therear panel of the modem is designed to have power enter from the left and IF Cabling enter fromthe right when viewed from the rear of the unit. Data and Control Cabling can enter from eitherside although they are closer to the center. The unit can be placed on a table or suitable surfaceif required.There are no user-serviceable parts or configuration settingslocated inside the QAM256 Chassis. There is a potential shockhazard internally at the Power Supply Module. DO NOT open theQAM256 Chassis under any circumstances. Always disconnect themain plug before servicing of any kind.Before initially applying power to the unit, it is a good idea to disconnectthe transmit output from the operating ground station equipment. This isespecially true if the current QAM256 configuration settings areunknown, where incorrect settings could disrupt existingcommunications traffic.2.1 UnpackingThe QAM256 Digital Video Modulator and Upconverter was carefully packaged to avoid damageand should arrive complete with the following items for proper installation:QAM256 UnitPower Cord, with applicable AC ConnectorInstallation and Operation Manual
