Chapter 2: Installation Procedures 6-2-27ST290 Instrument System Owner’s HandbookUnused connectorsInsert the blanking plugs supplied, into any unused SeaTALK2connectors on the instruments, keypads and junction blocks.2.8 Making power connectionsRequirementsCAUTION:Incorrectly connected power supplies could cause damage to thesystem. Ensure you do NOT deviate from the procedures in thishandbook, when connecting power. The ST290 system requires a 12 V dc supply. Power can be suppliedeither from a separate 12 V dc source (preferably from a 12 V battery) or,from SeaTalk. In either case, the power source for the ST290 system mustbe protected by a 5 A fuse or circuit breaker. If your vessel only has a 24 V supply, a suitable down-converter must beused to provide 12 V.Power for the system is connected to the DPU then distributed from thereto the rest of the system via the SeaTalk and SeaTALK2 buses.Power supply capacityThe power supply information given here is valid for a typical ST290system where the total of the LENs for all products on SeaTALK2 is 100or less (see Section 6, Chapter 1). If you are installing a large systemwhere the total of the LENs is in excess of 100, please contact theRaymarine Technical Support Department, or your local RaymarineDealer for advice on power supply connection.Grounding the systemIn order to meet the system EMC specification:• The SeaTALK 2 cable screen must be connected to the vessel’s RFground point.• The 12 V supply must remain floating. DO NOT connect any part ofthe 12 V supply to a ground point.
