18(d) Place in operation the appliance being inspected.Follow the lighting instructions. Adjust thermostatso appliance will operate continuously.(e) Test for spillage at the drafthood relief openingafter 5 minutes of main burner operation. Use theflame of a match or candle, or smoke from a ciga-rette, cigar or pipe.(f) After it has been determined that each applianceremaining connected to the common venting sys-tem is venting properly, return doors, windows, exhaust fans, fireplace dampers and any othergas burning appliance to their previous conditionsof use.(g) Any improper operation of the common ventingsystem should be corrected so that the installationconforms with the latest edition of the NationalFuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1. When re-sizing anyportion of the common venting system, the com-mon venting system should be re-sized toapproach the minimum size as determined usingthe appropriate tables in the National Fuel GasCode, ANSI Z223.1.For special venting applications that require reducedvent sizes and through-the-wall venting, the Type DInduced Draft Assembly can be used. Consult the fac-tory or your local Raypak representative.Vent Damper InstallationModels 0133 Through 0180(Where Required)LocationThe vent damper must be located in the vent so that itserves only the appliance for which it is intended. If improperly installed, a hazardous condition, such asan explosion or carbon monoxide poisoning, couldresult. Make certain that it is mounted in an accessiblelocation at least 6 in. from any combustible material orthe heat exchanger and that the position indicator is ina visible location. The vent damper must be installed after the appliancedrafthood, as close to the drafthood as practicable, and without modification of the drafthood.MountingOn vertical vents, the vent damper may be mountedwith the actuator in any position. On horizontal vents,do not mount the actuator either directly above ordirectly below the vent pipe; mount the vent damperactuator to the side of the vent, as shown in Fig. 16.The vent damper is set up for a continuous pilot sys-tem. If the vent damper is installed on an IntermittentPilot or Direct Spark Ignition equipped system, theenergy savings of the vent damper can be improvedby plugging the hole in the vent damper blade usingthe knockout plug, Part No. 105612R, provided in theparts envelope.DO NOT plug the hole if installing the vent damper ona continuous pilot system as this will create a haz-ardous condition.WARNING: Do not use thermally actuated ventdampers on modulating heater. To do so, may resultin asphyxiation. Use only a mechanically actuatedvent damper device that is electrically interlockedwith the modulating heater operation.Fig. 15: Vent Damperappliance not connected to the common ventingsystem. Turn on any exhaust fans, such as rangehoods and bathroom exhausts, so they will oper-ate at maximum speed. Do not operate a summerexhaust fan. Close fireplace dampers.
