Connecting Up and Removing Air In the CircuitThe outdoor units is loaded with sufficient R-22 refrigerant for 5 m(16 ft) ofpiping. The air in the indoor unit and in the pipe must be purged. If airremains in the refrigeration pipes, it will affect the compressor, reduce tocooling capacity and could lead to a malfunction. Refrigerant for air purgingis not charged in the outdoor unit. Use Vacuum Pump as shown at the figure.Adding RefrigerantRefrigerant must be added if the piping measures more than 5 m(16 ft) inlength (maximum of “A” m/ft). The quantity of additional refrigerant isvariable according to the installation situation. Thus, make sure the outdoorunit situation before adding refrigerant. This operation can only be performedby a qualified refrigeration specialist.Connect each assembly pipe to the appropriate valve on the outdoor unitand tighten the flare nut.1Referring to the illustration opposite, tighten the flare nut on section B firstmanually and then with a wrench, applying the following torque.Outer Diameter Torque6.35 mm (1/4") 160kgf•cm (11 ft•lb)9.52 mm (3/8") 300kgf•cm (21 ft•lb)15.88 mm (5/8") 400kgf•cm (29 ft•lb)19.05 mm (3/4") 750kgf•cm (54 ft•lb)2Connect the charging hose of low pressure side of manifold gauge to thepacked valve having a service port as shown at the figure.3Open the valve of the low pressure side of manifold gauge counterclockwise.4Purge the air from the system using vacuum pump for about 10 minutes. Close the valve of the low pressure side of manifold gauge clockwise. Make sure that pressure gauge show -0.1MPa(-76cmHg) after about10 minutes. This procedure is very important in order to avoid gas leak. Turn off the vacuum pump. Remove the hose of the low pressure side of manifold gaugemaintaining a vacuum.5Set valve cork of both liquid side and gas side of packed valve to theopen position.6Mount the valve stem nuts and the service port cap to the valve, andtighten them at the torque of 183kgf•cm(13ft•lb) with a torque wrench.7Check for gas leakage. At this time, especially check for gas leakage from the 3-way valve’sstem nuts(A port), and from the service port cap.8ABCDOutdoor unit Indoor unitGas pipe sideLiquid pipe side3-way valveA(gas)B(liquid)VacuumpumpModelUCC2400CUCC2800CUCC4400CA30m(100ft)50m(164ft)a40g(1.41oz)65g(2.29oz)Bb50g(1.76oz)75g(2.64oz)For details about the installationsituation(a or b), refer to page 46.☛ If you have used...
