T HE FAX M A C H I N EReceiving a FaxReception ModesYour machine has four reception modes:In TEL mode, automatic fax reception is turned off. You can receive a fax only bymanually pressing START/COPY.In FAX mode, the machine answers an incoming call and immediately goes into receivemode.In TAD mode, the caller can leave a message on your answering machine. If a fax toneis detected, your fax machine begins reception automatically, overriding the answeringmachine’s announcement.This mode is available only when you have connected an answering machine to theEXT. LINE jack on the rear of the machine.In AUTO mode, the machine answers incoming faxes automatically. If no fax signal isdetected, the machine gives a secondary ringing tone to advise you of an incoming call.When the machine is in Standby mode, the LCD shows the current reception mode.If you rarely use the fax line for voice conversation, set the fax machine to receive faxesautomatically by selecting either FAX or AUTO mode.Receiving in TEL Mode1Press RECEIVE repeatedlyuntil TEL appears in theLCD.4 When you are using the TEL modeand an answering machine is installed,you must switch off the answeringmachine, otherwise the OGM from theanswering machine will interrupt yourtelephone conversation.TEL appears in the LCDand the RECEIVE indicator 11-15 10:30 TELlight is off.3.6 C HAPTER T H R E E : THE FAX M ACHINE
